May 24, 2013 NEW YORK – Amanda Bynes is a free woman again. The troubled actress was released from police custody after she appeared in a New York court on Friday morning, the Manhattan District Attorney's Office confirmed to FOX 411. Bynes was released on her own recognizance-- meaning she did not have to post bail-- and she will have to appear in court again on July 9 to address her latest legal woes. Police say the actress was arrested in midtown Manhattan after she heaved a marijuana bong out of a window. The officers went to her apartment on the 36th floor where they said they saw heavy smoke and a bong sitting on the kitchen counter.

New study reveals how glyphosate in Monsanto's Roundup inhibits natural detoxification in human cells

May 24, 2013 (NaturalNews) The modern age of industrial agriculture and manufacturing has dumped heavy metals, carninogens, plastics, and pesticides into the environment at alarming rates. These toxins are showing up in most human tissue cells today. One distinct chemical may be trapping these toxins in human cells, limiting the human body's ability to detoxify its own cells. In a new peer reviewed study, this sinister chemical, glyphosate, has been proven to inhibit the human cell's ability to detoxify altogether. Glyphosate, found in Monsanto's Roundup, is being deemed by publishers of the new study "one of the most dangerous chemicals" being unleashed into the environment today.

The real reason the NYPD likes stop-and-frisk is not to keep weapons off the street: It's free weed

May 23, 2013 To hear Mayor Bloomberg and NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly explain it, stop-and-frisk is a messy but invaluable tool used to keep weapons off the street. But an analysis of stops in 2012 confirms that the tactic is vastly more effective at generating marijuana arrests. The NYCLU [PDF] looked at last year's 532,911 stops and found that while the NYPD recovered 729 guns, more than 5,000 people were arrested for marijuana possession. Indeed, marijuana was the top reason to be arrested during a stop in 2012, ahead of trespassing and criminal possession of a weapon. Surveys have shown that whites use marijuana at higher rates than blacks or Hispanics, yet of the 26,225 marijuana-related stops made in 2012, only 8.

The neatly groomed common of shade trees and footpaths is six blocks from Temple Square, world headquarters of the Mormon faith. It is also a prime location for scoring drugs. "They're here if you want them," said Kathy Kennedy, 48, an admitted alcoholic and former heroin addict who has dabbled in cocaine and methamphetamine. Unemployed for years, she was killing the afternoon in the park, as she does most days.

May 13, 2013 In the wake of a massive US Department of Agriculture report highlighting the continuing large-scale death of honeybees, environmental groups are left wondering why the Environmental Protection Agency has decided to approve a “highly toxic” new pesticide. The continuing mass death of honeybees, known scientifically as Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) and a “pollinator crisis,” could well strain production of over 100 crops in the US including apples, zucchinis, avocados and plums. The agriculture value of these products is estimated at over $200 billion globally per year. As RT recently reported, a new USDA report has taken a broad look at the decline of bee colonies in the country, highlighting a dire situation as the number of colonies has plummeted from 3 million in 1990 to 2.5 million this year.

Study finds 'soup of toxic chemicals' in the air near Arkansas ExxonMobil spill site

April 30, 2013 Emergency crews work to clean up an oil spill in front of evacuated homes on Starlite Road in Mayflower, Arkansas March 31, 2013. (Reuters / Jacob Slaton) While many questions remain following ExxonMobil’s March 29 tar sands oil spill in Mayflower, Arkansas, a new independent study has revealed the existence of high levels of cancer-causing chemicals in the area. The new research, co-published by the Faulkner County Citizens Advisory Group and Global Community Monitor, indicates that the 500,000 gallons of heavy bitumen oil released by a gash in ExxonMobil’s aging Pegasus pipeline has released hazardous air pollutants (HAPs) as defined by the 1990 US Clean Air Act. According to a press release in conjunction with the new study, the total of 30 toxic chemicals include benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, n-hexane and xylenes. Consequences of exposure to these chemicals include damage to the human nervous system, muscular weakness and blurred vision, while breathing ethylbenzene and benzene in particular can cause cancer and reproductive issues.

April 5, 2013 (NaturalNews) How insanely out-of-control has the war on drugs become? Apparently now, if all you do is buy equipment to grow plants and vegetables indoors is reason enough to suspect you of conducting illegal drug activity. Case in point: State police and sheriff's deputies in Kansas raided the home of Adlynn and Robert Harte, two former CIA employees, in a fruitless search for marijuana as part of a two-state drug sweep in conjunction with Missouri police agencies - all because they had bought supplies to grow vegetables inside their home. As a result of getting improperly swept up in the operation, the couple has filed suit "to get more information about why sheriff's deputies searched their home in the upscale Kanas City suburb of Leawood last April 20 as part of Operation Constant Gardener - a sweep conducted by agencies in Kansas and Missouri that netted marijuana plants, processed marijuana, guns, growing paraphernalia and cash from several other locations," The Associated Press reported. That date has long been used by marijuana users as a way to celebrate the drug, which remains illegal on the federal level though voters in two states - Colorado and Washington - legalized it for recreational use last November. 'Public has an interest in knowing' The Harte's attorney, Cheryl Pilate, says, however, that she believes her clients' 1,865-square-foot split level home was targeted because they recently purchased hydroponic gear to grow small numbers of tomatoes and squash in their basement.

March 27, 2013 Beekeepers, conservation and food campaigners accuse Environmental Protection Agency of failing to protect the insects The US government is being sued by a coalition of beekeepers, conservation and food campaigners over pesticides linked to serious harm in bees. The lawsuit accuses the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) of failing to protect the insects – which pollinate three-quarters of all food crops – from nerve agents that it says should be suspended from use. Neonicotinoids, the world’s most widely used insecticides, are also facing the prospect of suspension in the European Union, after the health commissioner pledged to press on with the proposed ban despite opposition from the UK and Germany. “We have demonstrated time and time again over the last several years that the EPA needs to protect bees,” said Peter Jenkins, an attorney at the Centre for Food Safety who is representing the coalition. “The agency has refused, so we’ve been compelled to sue.

March 13, 2013 (NaturalNews) You may not be aware of it, but every time you bite into that crisp, organic apple or succulent, organic pear, you could be exposing yourself to two different antibiotic drugs that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA)'s National Organic Standards Board (NOSB) has quietly allowed to be used on these two fruits since the organic program's inception back in the 1990s. And unless the health-conscious community makes its collective voice heard on this important issue, the deceptive practice will continue to play a role in the growing antibiotic-resistance epidemic that is sweeping modern society. It has been a problem since the early days of the National Organic Program (NOP) -- a destructive bacterial disease known as fire blight tends to harm many apple and pear varieties, making their trees appear as though they have been burned by fire.

March 9, 2013 Air pollution and chemicals found in common household and personal care goods are major sources of exposure that can lead to an accumulation of toxins in your body. Forbes Magazine1 recently listed the 20 most polluted cities in the US. Topping the list is Fresno, California, where inhabitants are exposed to both groundwater pollution from agriculture and the worst year-round air particle pollution in the nation. Number two and three on the list are Bakersfield, CA, the oil capital of the US, and Philadelphia, PA, known for its foul-smelling refineries and chemical plants. The best advice I could give you should you happen to live in a heavily polluted area is to move, but I realize that isn’t always a practical option.

Feb. 27, 2013 (NaturalNews) In a classic example of an anti-free-market collapse, fifty pharmaceutical companies are now halting supplies of drug medicines to the nation of Greece, causing severe shortages of over 200 popular pharmaceutical medicines there. Pfizer, Roche, GlaxoSmithKline, Sanofi and many other have all reportedly joined in the partial embargo out of a fear that the low-priced drugs sold to Greece would be intercepted and sold off to buyers in other countries where drug prices are kept artificially high due to Big Pharma's monopolistic practices. So instead of lowering the prices of drugs in nearby countries in order to stem the outflow of medicines from Greece, mega drug giants like GSK -- a company that has already pleaded guilty to multiple felony crimes in the USA -- are reportedly limiting or in some cases halting shipments to Greece, causing a nationwide collapse of chemical medicine. Pharmacies say supplies have been slashed by 90% across the board, and one pharmacist says, "The government is panic-stricken.

Feb. 8, 2013 (NaturalNews) Well, Natural News has been making the connection for some time now, and it appears that, finally, other media outlets are beginning to do the same thing: Other media outlets, including the so-called conservative press - which has been reluctant to do so until recently - are reporting that many of the mass murders committed over the past 10-15 years have involved shooters who were taking, or had been taking, some sort of prescription psychotropic. Conservative commentator Alan Caruba, in a recent blog post, noted the connection in an essay entitled, "Making Little Murderers by Prescription," in which he observed that one positive thing that could come out of the Newtown, Conn., massacre is, finally, "a national discussion of the role of various psychological medications that have been foisted on a generation or two of young Americans in the nation's schools." More writers seeing the light Like us, Caruba mentioned a specific class of drugs as being particularly dangerous and, perhaps, ultimately responsible: SSRIs, or Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors, which are psychotropic medications that work to alter chemical levels in the brain which impact behavior and mood.

Jan. 3, 2013 (NaturalNews) A representative from the Ireland-based biopharmaceutical company Jazz Pharmaceuticals who was previously convicted of illegally marketing prescription drugs for off-label uses has been vindicated after a federal appeals court ruled the illicit marketing to be nothing more than simple "free speech." In a two-to-one decision made by a three-judge panel, it was determined that drug representatives can now freely advise doctors on how to prescribe drugs for unapproved uses, a ruling that could also end up proving beneficial for the natural supplement industry. According to The New York Times (NYT), the decision from New York's Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in Manhattan contradicts many years' worth of rulings that resulted in drug companies having to fork over billions of dollars in settlements and penalties to the federal government for what had previously been considered violations of the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act). Because as we all know, unless the U.

Dec. 19, 2012 Expert: Psychiatric drugs likely cause of Lanza's extreme violence NEW YORK – From the moment news emerged Friday that a young man had carried out a horrific massacre of elementary-school children, politicians from local city halls to the White House have been restoking the age-old push for more gun control. While guns have been a common denominator in mass slayings at schools by teens, there’s another familiar element that seems increasingly to be minimized. Some 90 percent of school shootings over more than a decade have been linked to a widely prescribed type of antidepressant called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors or SSRIs, according to British psychiatrist Dr. David Healy, a founder of RxISK.

Dec. 12, 2012 (NaturalNews) Even while manufacturers of nutritional supplements remain effectively gagged when it comes to promoting the truthful health benefits of their own products, a recent federal appeals court decision appears to give a free pass to pharmaceutical representatives peddling prescription drugs for "off-label" uses. Throwing out the previous conviction of Orphan Medical Inc. (now part of JazzPharmaceuticals Plc.) sales representative Alfred Caronia, the 2nd Circuit Court of Appeals in New York found that Caronia's rights to free speech under the First Amendment had been violated.

The continued drug use caused horrific damage to the drug users' skin with sores and scarring - that can be caused by uncontrollable scratching during a hallucination when the addict imagines bugs are crawling under their skin.
RIO DE JANEIRO, Dec 6 2012 (IPS) - A new kind of public-private partnership will begin in 2013 in Brazil to produce an antiretroviral drug, through a technology transfer agreement that will be in effect until the patent expires in 2017. The productive development partnership is based on an agreement with New York-based drug maker Bristol-Myers Squibb, to produce atazanavir sulphate. The drug will be made by Farmanguinhos, a technical-scientific unit of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) and the Health Ministry’s largest pharmaceutical laboratory. It will be distributed in the public health network as part of the antiretroviral (ARV) cocktail therapy that is provided free of charge to everyone who needs it in this country of 194 million people. “It’s an important symbolic process,” Dirceu Greco, the director of the Health Ministry’s Department of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, AIDS and Hepatitis (DDST), told IPS, referring to the five-year agreement with Bristol-Myers Squibb, which will represent some 200 million dollars in savings for Brazil.

Nov. 20, 2012 Prozac’s host of side effects aren’t just limited to depressed humans. Fish, too, suffer when the drug washes into their streams, rivers and lakes. When people excrete Prozac’s active ingredient, fluoxetine, in their urine, the chemical finds paths into natural waterways through sewage treatment plants that are unequipped to filter it out. When male fish ingest the drug, it seemingly alters their minds to the point of dysfunction and even destruction.
