20 insane 3-D drawings that will melt your mind a little

Oct. 25, 2012 t's pretty amazing what Dutch illustrator Ramon Bruin can do with just some pencils and paper. In Bruin's 3-D drawings, birds seem to take flight, feathers fall to Earth and monsters' tails poke through the page and into the air. Notably, there are two layers of illusion here: the drawing itself, and the equally challenging step of photographing the drawing in such a way that the 3-D effect is heightened. Otherwise, the magic — for example, Bruin seeming to lift the page to discover a monster underneath — would be lost.

IS THIS MICHELANGELO’S HIDDEN MESSAGE?

Sept. 25, 2012 Pretty much everyone is familiar with the ‘Creation of Adam’, even if they might not know that it is a section of a fresco painted by Michelangelo for the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican. Like the Mona Lisa, the picture is so commonly parodied and depicted on T-shirts and postcards as to have become a piece of kitsch. However, what almost everyone has missed is the hidden message that Micheloangelo inserted: a human brain dissimulated in the figure of God. Although the Creation of Adam was painted around 1511, it is not until 1990 that Frank Lynn Meshberger, a physician in Anderson, Indiana, publicly noted in the Journal of the American Medical Association that the figures and shapes that make up the figure of God also make up an anatomically accurate figure of the human brain.

July 2, 2012 Street art is seen by the Olympics as a problem to be solved. It's not, it's part of London's identity, and a reason why people visi 'Clown Town', painted by Mau Mau. Photograph: THTC Ethical Clothing/Light Factory Studio Some day a real rain will come and wash all the trash off the sidewalks, as Travis Bickle psychotically says in Martin Scorsese's film Taxi Driver. That rain is the Olympics, and it is threatening to wash London's streets clean of irreverent images like this portrait of a corporate clown carrying the torch. This week a graffiti painter– who claims he only works on legally sanctioned projects – was among several individuals banned from Olympic venues and London public transport, in a pre-emptive police strike against supposed threats to public order on the eve of the London Olympiad.

July 5, 2012 As if it's not bad enough to live in a country where Fourth of July fireworks are slowly, but surely, being criminalized out of existence... Art supply store owner, Bill Arkfeld, has been told by the city of Atascadero, California to either remove the mural that he had a visiting artist paint on the side of his store, or be fined. Or, he can appeal the decision to the city's Planning Commission by filing some paperwork and paying a $460 fee by July 6.

March 27, 2012 Artist Simon Beck must really love the cold weather! Using snow as his playground he wears raquettes (snowshoes) and creates awesome artworks. If you jaw has not dropped yet, just think of it this way. He literally works 5-9 hours a day walking in order to create his pieces. Along the frozen lakes of Savoie, France, he spends days mapping out the ideas. Each final piece is typically the size of three soccer fields, if not more.

Jan. 12, 2012 Graffiti by night….. * As the photos show, the art includes the map of Palestine with the Arabic prounoun أنا (“I” or “me”) and an image of a woman wearing a kaffiyeh with the word “revolt.” This image is a reminder of the central role women have played in Palestinian popular struggle.

This is funny as can be, and what can be called 'Justice for Degenerate Art.' This now "ruined" artwork had the noble goal of showing the art viewer how dripping water stains a bowl. Can you believe it was valued at a million dollars? As my guests and I have pointed out in the recent Heretics' Hour programs, there is no limit to how far down the art world can fall when in the control of Jews. From a news story carried by the AP. BERLIN (AP) —A cleaner with the best intentions accidentally destroyed a piece of art worth more than $1 million when she removed what she thought was a "stain" from the installation.

But no, it is not real. For the past week, graffiti artist Above has been working on a giant, attention-grabbing mural in Wynwood next to the I-95 northbound lanes as part of Primary Flight. It reads in block letters: "Give a Wall Street banker enough rope and he will hang himself." Today the artist added the cherry on top: a mannequin, dressed as a banker with a sack over his head, swinging from a noose. We asked Above to send us a photo as soon as the suicidal fat cat was hung.

Fed up with huge mortgage payments, Simon Dale decided to take matters into his own hands – literally. Armed with only a chisel, a chainsaw and a hammer, the 32-year-old moved his family to a hillside in Wales and started digging. The result is a wooden eco-home – constructed in four months and costing just £3,000 – which would look perfectly at ease alongside the Hobbit houses in The Lord Of The Rings. Finished article: Simon Dale's family home which he built in four months for a cost of £3,000 Read more: http://www.dailymail.

There are few questions that suck the joy out of a room faster than this one: “What good is it?” As the creator of innumerable software toys that serve no useful function, I find this type of question, and its close relatives (which include “what did you make that for?”, “how are you gonna monetize that?” and “so?”) a little vexing. These questions are the blunt weapons of the unimaginative. A question like “what good is it?” presupposes that all things must serve some common good. They must save lives, or repair toasters, or solve the world’s fuel shortages, or above all, make enormous sums of money. In short, everything must have a use, and frivolity should be avoided.

Henry Moore who is best known for his modernist sculptures, hides a secret past. The Whitechapel art college back in 1973 had a small foundry where students could make their own bronzes, the man in charge of this department was a Mr. Nee who although himself well into his seventies still had to go to work, and it was Mr. Nee who told me that Henry Moore would spend 10 minutes with a hot knife and a block of polystyrene, and he Mr. Nee would then spend 3 months smoothing and blending the shapes before turning it into high priced bronze sculptures, which everyone laughed at but which sold for incredibly high prices.

The set is being built by two German brothers in an empty building on the banks of the Elbe in Hamburg and includes six regions including America, Switzerland, Scandinavia, Germany and the Austrian Alps. The American section features giant models of the Rocky Mountains and Mount Rushmore; the Swiss section has a mini-Matterhorn; and the Scandinavian part has a 4ft long passenger ship floating in a 'fjord'. It is expected to be finished in 2014, when the train set will cover more than 1,800 square metres (19, 376 sq ft) and feature almost 13 miles of track, by which time detailed models of parts of France, Italy and the UK will have been added. It comprises 700 trains with more than 10,000 carriages and wagons. The longest train is 46ft long.

Clementine Art, the natural alternative to toxic art supplies

(NaturalNews) Paints, glues, crayons, markers: many of these things purchased conventionally contain artificial chemical dyes, petrochemicals and other unknown ingredients, despite bearing a non-toxic label. Millions of children use such art supplies every day in preschool, art class and at home, and are unwittingly exposed to unknown levels of contaminants. Fortunately, there is a safe alternative. Diana Mercer is a teacher of young children in art and founder of Clementine Art, a natural children's art supply company. For many years, she has helped children express their creative intuitions through art, but became concerned over what hidden ingredients might be lurking in the supposed non-toxic art supplies she was using.

Dec. 19, 2009 There is a controversy brewing in Nipomo, California over the right of a resident Ron Lake to display a decoration on his lawn depicting Jesus shooting Santa Claus. Neighbors want the display removed, but Lake insists that it is a work of art. Lake insists that it is a political statement against the commercialism of Christmas. He added “[y]ou can tell your kids and make it as if there’s a Santa Claus, and let them believe all that, but you can’t explain these things or ignore this thing.

But these spectacular images are not the unexpected result of an earthquake. Treasure trove: An Egyptian style mural adorns a wall in Los Gatos, California.
