Hopi Way of Life on Verge of Being Lost
For those of us that can only peek inside the traditions of indigenous people, we are fascinated and intrigued by their ancient ways. If this calls to your inner soul for something more, consider the following:
… Someone Attempted To Erase Your God
… Your Religion Became Illegal
… Your Beliefs Vanished
… Your Rituals Died With You
… Everything You Know Was Forgotten
… Your Voice Was No Longer Heard
… Your Culture Became Extinct
Unlikely? Think again, as these are current threats facing the Traditional Hopi Way of Life. Sadly, these threats are coming from within the Hopi Nation. The empowered Governing Council, which is supported by the Federal Government, is controlled by Hopi unsympathetic to their ancestral ways. In fact, this Governing Council has scheduled a referendum for January 27th, 2011. If passed, the four remaining Traditional Chieftain villages will be eliminated. These villages will no longer have the freedom to choose their path but will be mandated to follow direction from the Governing Council.
The Traditional Hopi inherently pray and honor ALL. Their ceremonial religious cycle is a system of prayer intended to keep ALL living things in harmony. They pray for a balanced earth, which includes ALL of us as we are ALL ONE. They pray for good health and a long life. They pray for peace and the ending of wars. They pray for a better world so that ALL children will have a future filled with love and compassion.
The Traditional Hopi understand we don’t own the land but are keepers in trust for the Creator. In the past, the elders suffered greatly because they did not abandon their culture of being stewards of the land. Of the ten Hopi villages, only four remain with Traditional Chiefs and they are being threatened.
What if …
… There Is A Better Way
… The Time Has Come For Change
… You Could Make A Difference
For the first time in many generations, the Traditional Hopi are uniting for a common cause. They are setting aside their differences for the greater good of ALL. For them, the time has come for true healing to begin.
For the Hopi not in agreement with these traditional ways and currently in control of the Governing Council, how can you turn away from your heritage, your people? Is the thirst for money and power worth the irreversible damage to humanity?
Could this be a microcosm for the rest of us?
The remaining Traditional Hopi villages do not have the financial resources to maintain their ancient Way of Life, which begins with legal representation to defend against the removal of Traditional Chiefs by the Governing Council. They are turning to their white, black, yellow and other red brothers and sisters for help. This is because the money that does exist in the Tribal Funds is being used by the Governing Council against them. They have no choice but to look externally for help.
As such, the Traditional Chieftain villages have aligned with The Society for Restoring Ancient Wisdom, a non-profit organization created with the intention to help save endangered indigenous traditions. Time is of the essence with this referendum scheduled for January 27th, 2011.
I ask that you open your hearts. Through prayer, donations or whatever your heart suggests, you will make a difference.
