Shortly before the start of Hurricane Season, Levees.org hosted an Unveiling Ceremony for a Historic Plaque with grammy award winning performer Irvin Mayfield Jr.
Click here to see the moving 2-minute video of the memorable event.
The Historic Plaque, our second, was placed near the London Avenue Canal Eastside Breach Site (corner of Warrington Drive and Mirabeau Avenue) in the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans.
Mr. Mayfield's participation included playing the Elysian trumpet, dedicated to the memory of Irvin Mayfield, Sr. and all of the victims of the flooding on August 29, 2005.
While the Historic Plaque is Levees.org's gift to the Gentilly neighborhood of New Orleans, the text was crafted and the location was chosen in collaboration with the neighborhood association leaders and affected residents.
This is our second Plaque. The first was placed at the 17th Street Canal levee breach site last August. Both Historic Plaques are the product of neighborhood-driven initiatives.

The more people who watch the video, the more we can keep the story about the metro New Orleans flooding in front of the American people.
